Calculation tool for the analysis of the main bioenergy chains has been developed by the MIB - Make It Be - Project for decision makers, technicians, energy managers, researchers and key persons in energy fields to facilitate the strategic energy planning in the biomass sector.
"Biomass Analysis" is a tool annexed as file XLS and described in the Annex IV.II: "Tool of the Analysis of the Bioenergy chains" of the Guideline for the development of supporting tools for bio-energy initiatives, linked as follow.
The aim of this tool is to get a general overview of the biomass of a given area and to evaluate which bioenergy chain could be suitable.
The tool is formed by a set of sheets. The "Maps tool sheet" represents a conceptual map where different classes of biomass are connected to suitable bio-energy pathways, to respective biofuels and their potential uses.
At the same time, by the "Biomass Calculation Sheet" the analyses of the biomass, on the basis of different parameters, is possible.
At last, a synthesis of the analysed biomass and of the potential biofuels that could be produced is shown, both as tables and in graphics.
More in particular, three summary tables are developed: the first table is automatically calculated and summarizes the Potential Biomass and Biofuels production, related to different sectors and bioenergy chains. The second table summarizes and compares the energy content values related to the potential biomass and the respective biofuel production, taking in consideration different measure units (MJ, TOE and MWh). The third table takes in consideration some socio-economic and environmental indicators such as holdings and areas/animal bred involved. These indicators could be considered both for the analysis of the boundaries system and for the development of agreement contracts of the biomass.
